Role
Game Designer, Gameplay Programmer, Level Designer
Mini Mania is a first-person puzzle game in which the player must solve puzzles using their shrink/grow gun to change the size of things, including themself by shooting themself through mirrors. It was created as part of a group project for my final year of university.
My personal contributions include:
Design: Creating the high concept pitch and the main mechanic (shooting objects to change their size, changing the players size by shooting themself through the mirror). Iterating on the design throughout development based on player feedback and new ideas. Creating a fan mechanic, in which fans can lift the player and other objects, but only when they are shrunk.
Programming: Implementing certain core mechanics such as the mirrors reflecting rays and the fans that can lift the player. Iterating on gameplay elements such as the ray-gun to improve the game feel for the player. Lots of bug fixing.
Level Design: After creating the fan mechanic, I created a level based around it. The level initially teaches the player how to interact with the fans via simple puzzles, and then begins to test the player with more complex and interesting uses for the fans.
Design Document: I made the projects creative design document (Link on the left of the page). This document helped the team of 14 to share a collective vision for the game, and I iterated on the document throughout development so that it stayed up to date.
